Positive: My stay at Baleni was the best in my three week trip in Armenia! I was warmly greeted by Anna and her daughter and shown to my room upstairs – overlooking a luscious garden. The house is set back in a rustic neighborhood on the outskirts of town – a quiet oasis. In the evening I enjoyed a lovely tea with Anna, Vardan, their daughter, and Anna’s mother. Great conversation and laughter flowed. Both Anna and her husband work at the local university. They are both very knowledgeable about local and Armenian history, telling me stories about local lore and traditions and answering all of the specific questions I had about Sisian and the area. They were very respectful of space and quiet. The house was very clean and everything was comfortable. In the morning I was able to witness their routine of getting ready for school and work, as I enjoyed a plentiful breakfast of delicious Armenian foods from their garden and that Anna’s mother had made. My only wish is that I was able to stay longer with this lovely family – I hope to be back! If you are in Sisian, I recommend Baleni! It will be one of the highlights of your trip!
